BGR Put a Cracked Flagship Screen at $218 to $379. A New Battery Costs Far Less.
BGR's October 2026 comparison put flagship screen repairs at $218–$379 without coverage; Samsung lists S26 screens at $209–$289 — a battery often costs far less, per BGR.

If the phone you run your shop on slips off a counter in Allegan, the repair quote — not the new-phone ad — is the number that decides your week.
What to do: Before you book a repair, get the out-of-warranty price for your exact model and compare it with a battery-only fix and with replacement.
BGR's October 2026 comparison of official repair prices put an iPhone flagship screen near the top of its range and Android flagships lower, but none were cheap [3]. The manufacturers' own pages are the check that matters for your model.
The manufacturers' own numbers set the ceiling
Samsung's United States support page listed Galaxy S26 screen-only repair at $209 for the S26, $229 for the S26+, and $289 for the S26 Ultra, as checked October 17, 2026 [1]. Apple's support page quotes an out-of-warranty estimate only after you select the exact iPhone model [2].
BGR, comparing official prices on October 2026 models, put an iPhone 18 Pro Max screen at $379 and a Pixel 11 Pro XL screen at $218, with batteries at $129 for Apple and $88 for Google [3]. Treat the model-specific figure from the maker, on the day you call, as final — these are as-of figures, not quotes.
A battery is a different decision from a screen
Our calculation: a $129 battery on a $1,299 phone is about 10% of that phone's list price, while a $379 screen is about 29%. The math is in the source notes. That gap is why a slow phone with a worn battery is often worth fixing, while a shattered flagship may not be.
Think of the phone like a work truck: a new battery is a tune-up, a cracked screen on a top model is bodywork after a fender-bender — both fixable, at very different fractions of value.
The other side: coverage changes the arithmetic, at a monthly price
Apple sells AppleCare+, which cuts an outer-display screen repair to a $29 service fee ($99 for inner-display damage), for a monthly or two-year price [2]; Samsung and Google sell similar plans. Whether that pays depends on how often your crew breaks a phone. We are not recommending for or against a plan; run your last two years of breakage first.
Independent repair shops are the other side on price. The Federal Trade Commission's (FTC) report to Congress, 'Nixing the Fix,' found repair restrictions can raise costs and limit choice [4]. State right-to-repair laws have spread since then, CNBC reported in April 2026, and their backers argue that more independent repair shops push screen prices down [5].
For your IT provider
What this means for Southwest Michigan
A replacement phone is not just the sticker: it is a day moving banking apps, authenticators, and customer photos, plus downtime. If a battery and a case keep a paid-off phone useful for another year, that is often the cheapest year of phone service you will buy.
Before anyone in the shop replaces a phone, back it up, photograph the damage, and write down three numbers: battery fix, screen fix, replacement total. Decide from those, not from the counter offer.
Kicker — do this week: Check battery health on every shop phone, back each one up, and fit a case to the phone that has none.

Source notes / math: Our calculation: $129÷$1,299≈9.9% (shown as about 10%); $379÷$1,299≈29.2% (about 29%), using BGR's $1,299 list price, as of Oct. 2026. Conflicting Samsung $279 vs $289 figures in secondary roundups were resolved in favour of Samsung's own support page ($289 Ultra). No price is a quote; taxes, labour, and frame damage can change the bill, as Samsung and Apple note.
